Stranded

Ridin’ in a winter canyon, I found a blossom in the snow

She was the only flower standin’, by the lonesome river flow

I never had to ask her, there are eyes that you just know

She just climbed up on my saddle, seem like a lifetime ago

We rode that horse right up the walls, I didn’t look over the side

I just felt her body in my arms, and held the reins to steer the ride

We made it to the canyon rim, and she was dancin’ on the ledge

I was so afraid of fallin’, I had to lie down on the edge

She promised me she’d die

before she left me stranded

I swore, I swore the same

She didn’t leave me empty-handed

She gave me back my name

Now I’ve got many miles to ride, before I’m restin’ in my bed

I hear all the pledges that I’ve made, spinnin’ echoes in my head

I never meant to hurt no one, with anything I done or said

I just lost track of the living, payin’ homage to the dead

Now I don’t pray to Jesus for forgiveness

when I trespass on the range

I paid cash for my sin

and I’m waitin’ on the change

She promised me she’d die

before she left me stranded

I swore, I swore the same

She didn’t leave me empty-handed

She gave me back my name
